Nepali Unicode Typing: Complete Guide

Method 1: Using Online Tools for Nepali Unicode Typing

If you prefer not to change your system settings, several online tools allow you to type in Nepali Unicode using transliteration—type in Romanized English, and the tool converts it to Devanagari.

Method 2: Setting Up Nepali Unicode on Your Computer (Recommended)

For frequent typing, setting up your system with a Nepali keyboard layout is more efficient. Windows 10 and 11 include a built-in Nepali language pack.

How to Set Up Unicode on Windows 11:
  1. Go to Settings > Time & Language > Language & Region

  2. Under “Preferred languages,” click Add a language

  3. Search for Nepali (नेपाली - नेपाल) and click Next > Install

  4. If already added, click the three-dot icon > Language Options

  5. Under “Keyboards,” click Add a keyboard

  6. Choose:

    • Nepali (नेपाल) for Romanized input

    • Hindi Phonetic for phonetic typing like “ma ahile khaana banaudai chhu” → “म अहिले खाना बनाउँदै छु”

  7. Use the language indicator in the system tray (bottom-right) to switch keyboards

  8. Or press Windows + Spacebar to toggle between installed keyboards
